We are currently using Red Rose Phonics, Letters and Sounds and Phonics Play to support our Phonics teaching.

Children in EYFS and KS1 have a daily phonics session moving to a taught spelling session three times a week in KS2.

No Nonsense Spelling is an age related spelling program that is used in KS2 to teach. Fast Track Phonics and Bounce Back Phonics are used where necessary to support children not achieving age relatedexpectations.

We have recently updated all our Reading books throughout school and have organised them in phonics phases.  We have phonics books for Early Reading in EYFS and phonics books with a higher interest level for children in KS2 that are developing their early reading skills.  We use a range of books from:

Oxford Reading Tree

Project X

Phonics Bug

Lighthouse

Zoom

Phonics Books Catch Up

Jelly and Bean

along with other independent authors

All children are provided with a book bag and a reading record which we encourage parents to fill in to show they have listened to their child read at home. We expect reading bags to be brought to school every day and children to read regularly at home.

We have recently updated our school library and each class have a timetabled session in which they can access books from the library. We train some of our Year 5 and 6 children to be librarians who run the library at lunch times enabling each class extra library time if they wish to.
